White Privilege
White Privilege exists, but it's not what you think it is. White privilege doesn't mean you were handed anything on a silver platter. It doesn't mean you had it easy. White privilege doesn't mean you didn't earn what you have. It simply means you lack the disadvantages that comes from being black in America. You may have been poor, you may have had to work 3 jobs to get ahead, but whatever your difficulties, being black would have made them at least a little worse if not a lot.
White privilege exists because as a group black people are underprivileged or disadvantaged and that means white people by comparison are advantaged. It's about the inequality of opportunity which exists between the two groups. That doesn't mean there aren't black people more privileged than you, but you would always be less privileged if you were black.
I personally prefer to not use the term in regular conversation. Not because there is anything wrong or inaccurate about it, but because it hurts the pride of white people and causes them to close their minds and harden their hearts. I've never had a white person object to the idea that black people may have it harder in some way, but if you describe that exact phenomenon as privilege the conversation takes a turn for the worse.
